Bran Hambric By Kaleb Nation

This is a brand new book and first for Kaleb Nation. Many Twilight fans know him as "The Twilight Guy". I had a chance to meet him at TwiCon, and I have to say he is such a NICE guy and so down to earth! Kaleb is from TX and grew up in Round Rock, TX. I know many of us living in TX are excited about his TX ties. As side from that, I received my copy the other day in the mail and it's really good so far.

I'm so bad at reading more than one book at a time, but I had to put it down so I could concentrate on the Storm Glass series. I do plan on finishing this book come next week and I'm excited to post a review about it when I'm done.

Storm Glass by Maria. V Snyder

I finished this yesterday and I've already started Storm Glass. I'll post my review of that next.

Here's a brief description:
Untrained. Untested. Unleashed. With her unique magical abilities, Opal has always felt unsure of her place at Sitia's magic academy. But when the Stormdancer clan needs help, Opal's knowledge makes her the perfect choice - until the mission goes awry. Pulling her powers in unfamiliar directions, Opal finds herself tapping into a new kind of magic as stunningly potent as it is frightening. Now Opal must deal with plotters out to destroy the Stormdancer clan, as well as a traitor in their midst. With danger and deception rising around her, will Opal's untested abilities destroy her - or save them all?

This is another great series by Maria Snyder. This story follows Opal (and includes our favorite characters from the P. Study series) as she learns to develop her talent. She is sent on her first mission with Master Magician #2 of which is their first mission by themselves with out any guards. During this mission, Opal learns what she can really do with her power as she learns to develop and control it. Her class mates taunt her and call her the "one trick wonder", but the powers she uncovers on her trip are a threat to every magician. These powers are wanted by some very powerful, and evil magicians and men.

I liked that Opal is a very different character than Yelena. She starts off lacking the self confidence and the self reliant that Yelena has. That took a little bit for me to get used, but it was still a great read and like I said, I liked she wasn't like Yelena. Opal starts out believing she's a one trick wonder and falling into the "willing victim" category and making some very costly stupid mistakes from this which end up hurting her and others. She grows into a wise magician who's able to not only help those around her, but is able to help herself as she starts gaining more confidence in her abilities and learns to trust herself.

I really liked that our favorite characters where back in the series and even some we didn't like so much. The middle to the end of the book has a lot of action in it. Maria doesn't disappoint in this story as it's full of a lot of twists and turns. I love this world she's created and allowed us to come into.

I give this 4 stars

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Book Review

I had the chance to read this arc a few months back and I've been waiting to post my review. Please note this is done with out spoilers and without giving too much away.

Here's a synopsis of Catching Fire:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

I LOVE Catching Fire. This picks up right from where Hunger Games left off. This is going to be hard to write without spoilers. It's a gut wrenching, sitting on the edge of your chair, while having our heart melt from Katniss, Peeta and Gale kind of read. Catching Fire is full of twists, turns, happiness, betrayal and everything in the middle. I laughed, I cried, I yelled, and had my "aw" moments.

Katniss and Peeta find themselves in a situation they thought would be behind them. Rebellion is on the rise, as the Capitol is getting ready to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the games. Every 25 years the Capitol holds a special set of games called the Quarter Quell. Each of the winners from years past will now come face to face in this set of games. Katniss becomes the face of freedom for many citizens and as she gets thrown into situations she never thought possible, she has to learn who she can really trust-is it herself, Gale, Peeta, her team, her family, who!?! Not everyone is who you thought they were.

Catching Fire will leave you wanting more, as it's an adrenaline rush waiting to be read. I can't wait for the third book in the series to come out next year.
