What books are you looking forward to reading this fall?

Book Review- Hush, Hush

By Becca Fitzpatrick
Published by Simon and Schuster
To Be Released in Nov, 2009
Source: ARC-friend in the UK and finished book by Simon and Schuster
5 Stars

Summary: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel. For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

If you love how snarky Jace is, then you'll have the dark, sexy, mysterious Patch, who's also snarky. What is it about these snarky characters that we just can't get enough of them!?! I became addicted to this book before I even read it. I read and re-read (I won't say how many times) the first two chapters of Hush, Hush off Becca's website. I sat patiently waiting to receive my copy of the ARC (thank you C)! I received it yesterday and WOW! I finished it last night, as I couldn't put it down. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. They're so full of twists and turns and Patch and Nora's relationship will have you hooked from the get go.

Dark, sexy and mysterious, Nora can't get Patch out of her mind. Patch seems to be every where she is, and he always knows what to say to unnerve her and wanting more. Nora gets the feeling there's more to Patch and is in the surprise of her life when she finds out who Patch really and what he wants. Hush, Hush is one of those books that just sucks in you and you can't escape it. Every time you think you have one of the plot twists figured out, a new twist is thrown in. You'll be surprised up to the last page. **though I hear the last page of the ARC is different from the actual book**.

Brilliant, amazing, dark, sexy and mysterious. This book gets 5 stars from me.

I am so excited for Nov, when we'll be talking to Becca. Once Hush, Hush is released, we'll be able to talk about it more in detail.

Andrea's Waiting on Wednesday: Tempted by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

I cannot wait for this book to come out at the end of October! I have been waiting as patiently as I can for the release of the 6th book in the House of Night Series, Tempted. The House of Night Series is written by mother/daughter team P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. I really love the strong female role of Zoey Redbird. She rocks! I highly recommend reading this series if you haven't already.

Below is brief summary of Tempted found on The House of Night Website (I also highly recommend checking out the site - it has a lot of cool things to offer including the 1st chapter of Tempted):
So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions. Speaking of stress, the dark force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading, and Zoey is beginning to believe Stevie Rae could be responsible for a lot more than a group of misfit red fledglings. Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from Kalona and his dark allure, but they also show that it is Zoey who has the power to stop the evil immortal. Soon it becomes obvious that Zoey has no choice: if she doesn’t go to Kalona he will exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. Will Zoey have the courage to chance losing her life, her heart, and her soul? Find out in the next spectacular installment in the House of Night series, TEMPTED.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book
By: Neil Gaiman
Publisher: HarperCollins, 2008
5 out of 5 stars

“The boundaries are always there—between the graveyard and the world beyond, between life and death, and the crossing of them.” - Neil Gaiman

Summary taken from The Graveyard Book’s website:

Hear this tragic tale: a sleeping family, a talented murderer, and an adventurous toddler—orphaned, but not assassinated. Small and alone, by accident and luck he escapes the scene of the crime and climbs a grassy hill to safety. At the top of the hill the boy finds a fence, and on the other side, a dark, quiet place.

My Thoughts and Feelings:

There were two things about this book that instantly drew me in - #1. I love Neil Gaiman’s work, #2. The title. Needless to say, I had high hopes for this one and it delivered. This book is one that cannot be confined to a certain age group, but can speak to people of all ages.

Nobody Owens, affectionately known as Bod by his friends, is raised in a graveyard. Yes, a graveyard. Shocking isn’t, it? Just how did young Bod come to live amongst the tombstones and the ivy? Well, the story is really quite simple. Bod’s parents and older sister were murdered in their home when he was a small infant. Being the adventurous type, young Bod had climbed from his crib and up to the old graveyard during the killings. The murder, intent on killing the baby next, is shocked to find nothing more than an empty crib. The ghosts in the cemetery on the hill take Bod under their wings and provide a home and protection for him as he grows.

Can you imagine living your entire childhood inside a crypt with parents who died centuries before? Can you imagine having a guardian who can leave the cemetery to fetch you food and other necessities? Bod, however, can never leave the graveyard or he may run into the man who killed his family. One can be sure that such a run in could be disastrous for the youngster since the man with the knife would surely finish what he had begun so long ago.

This book is full of a charming cast of characters. One meets ghosts, a witch, a hellhound, and even a vampire. The coming of age story of young Bod Owens is one that had me eagerly flipping each page as I devoured the story. I saw all the problems that young children have to face put into extraordinary circumstances. The plot, dialogue, and setting were amazing! I highly recommend this read. This would be a great book to read with your children as the Halloween season approaches.

What do others have to say?

“The Graveyard Book is endlessly inventive, masterfully told and, like Bod himself, too clever to fit into only one place. This is a book for everyone. You will
love it to death.” - Holly Black, co-creator of The Spiderwick Chronicles

“The Graveyard Book manages the remarkable feat of playing delightful jazz riffs on Kipling’s classic Jungle Books. One might call this book a small jewel, but in fact it’s much bigger within than it looks from the outside.” - Peter S. Beagle, author of The Last Unicorn

Is Will from the Infernal Devices series and Jace related?

Cassandra kindly treated us with the answer on her google group-
Will and Jace are . . . related. But then, Will doesn't look like Jace . . . he looks more like Alec.

Seriously, next year can't come fast enough.

Waiting On Wednesday: Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis

I am dying to get my hands on this book. I went to Borders this past weekend to get it, but it's not out yet.

"Moonlight can totally change your life.
And it all starts so simply.
You. Him. The moon. You’re toast."

Okay, so maybe Shelby has made a few mistakes with boys lately (how was she supposed to know Wes had “borrowed” that Porsche?). But her step-mother totally overreacts when she catches Shelby in a post-curfew kiss with a hot senior. Suddenly Shelby’s summer plans are on the shelf, and she’s being packed off to brat camp. It’s good-bye, prom dress; hello, hiking boots.

Things start looking up, though, when Shelby meets fellow camper (and son of a rock star) Austin Bridges, III. But soon she realizes there’s more to Austin than crush material—his family has a dark secret, and he wants Shelby’s help guarding it. Shelby knows that she really shouldn’t be getting tangled up with another bad boy…but who is she to turn her back on a guy in need, especially such a good looking one? One thing’s for sure, that pesky full moon is about to get her into trouble all over again.
